Amos Confronts Amaziah; Judgment on the King's House
7
Chapter 7
10And Amaziah the priest of the house of God sent to Jeroboam king of Israel saying, "A conspiracy is against you, Amos, in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is not able to contain all his words."11For thus Amos has said: "By the sword Jeroboam will die, and Israel will go into exile—he will exile them from upon his ground."12And Amaziah said to Amos, "Seer, go flee to the land of Judah and eat bread there, and there you shall prophesy."13And do not continue to prophesy at Bethel anymore, for it is a sanctuary of the king, and it is a house of the kingdom.14He answered. Amos said to Amaziah, "I am not a prophet, nor am I a son of a prophet, for I am a cattleman and one who nips sycamore figs."15And the LORD took me from behind the flock, and the LORD said to me, "Go, prophesy to my people Israel."16Now hear the word of the LORD. You said, "Do not prophesy over Israel, and do not drip over the house of Isaac."17Therefore thus says the LORD: Your wife in the city will prostitute, and your sons and your daughters by the sword will fall, and your land by a measuring line will be divided, and you will die on unclean land, and Israel will go into exile from upon his land.
